We worked out what those sheds we saw yesterday were- tobacco drying sheds. This was once a big tobacco growing area. Apparently Chinese share farmers, who came to the area chasing gold, started farming tobacco in the 1880s and the industry ended in the 1980s.
We were away really early and stopped to have our breakfast at Wallangra, just a fire shed and an old sports ground.
Then on to Goondiwindi passing more cattle on the road. These didn't want to move off the road.
Around Goondiwindi we saw huge cotton farms. Its a lovely town.
Finally we reached Queensland and headed up the Leichhardt through the Darling Downs area ending up at Taroom. Lot of the country was very dry and not very exciting but it did vary and there was some interesting bush. Recently a gas industry has brought industry to the area. Coal Seam gas is not that popular, but the little towns are buzzing because of it.
A bottle tree at the look out in Taroom.
We’ll sleep well tonight!!!
