Bathurst and Villages on the way

Today we went to Bathurst covering lots of little villages on the way.
How many times can I write about rolling hills, villages, numerous creeks, farmland and mountains in the distance. This countryside is a beautiful and also very historic.

A Little Bit About The Places We Visited

Mandurama (means waterhole) has a population of 300 and quite a few dilapidated buildings. It was originally set up as a privately owned village for workers of Coombing Park.

Carcoar (means kookaburra or frog) was a great surprise. It has a population of about 240 and the town is classified by the National trust because of all the 19th century buildings which are well preserved. Of course bushrangers, bank robberies and an axe murder in 1893 feature in its history.
Loved the Enterprise Store (everything stacked around) and all the other buildings.

Neville history is unclear but it was possibly a stage coach stop. Not much there.

Barry has a population of 320 people and is another village that has all but disappeared.

Woodstock contains the remains of a brief goldrush in the late 1880s and many commercial buildings developed, however mining has long finished and the buildings are empty in varying stages of disrepair.

Perthville was originally a settlement to cater for travellers on a bullock and stagecoach track out from Bathurst and was proclaimed in 1855 (originally named Perth but the name was changed in 1908 to prevent confusion with Perth WA).

Bathurst is where did a lap around Mt Panorama. Scary enough at 60 kms...and NO we didn't have the van on behind. There are spectacular views for the top of the track and the clouds had lifted. It is the oldest inland city in Australia (1815) as once explorers came over the Blue Mountains they found good grazing land. It further developed with the discovery of gold.
