We found a castle
We started the day looking for the backpackers pumpkin patch and tried another road along the Lachlan River. All we found was lucerne.
Across the scary bridge again at Goolagong, the new one can't get finished quick enough!!
Then it was a half day at Grenfell Henry Lawson festival. Sunshine, lots of people and a huge street procession. We missed out on a ride on the coach.
Greg was pretty interested in all the old machinery.
There was a pretty impressive display by these kids
And then the parade which lasted for almost an hour.
Then we went down to Lambing Flat ( now called Young). Its another early goldmining area and scene of riots with the Chinese. They have developed a Chinese garden at the scene of these riots, its quite beautiful. Rifter just wanted to chase the ducks.
We headed home via back roads and found a castle called Iandra- a 54 roomed mansion. It was built by George Henry Greene from 1878-1911, and is a rare example of complete feudal-like estate, modelled on the English Manor System. It has no equal in New South Wales or Australia. The nearby village of Greenthorpe was built by Greene for his tennants. But it was “not for the likes of us” to look in and it was hard to even take a photo but of course I tried.
And we finally found the pumpkin patch But it was too dark for a photo. Tomorrow we hitch up again and head north.
