From the Knee to the Toe of Yorke Peninsular

Today we explored the bottom of the Yorke Peninsular. In short it was historic sandstone houses, farms and communities and beautiful beaches.

But first sharing our camp site over the past few days.We are staying at the show grounds, right next to the footy oval and the lamb paddock.

The Shower Block
Inside- take your pick of showers - there are two

Two local brothers ( in their 70s)  cruise in each day. The first checks the sheep (a new one born as we were watching this morning) and the other collects the fees. From them we have learnt quite a bit about the local area. It as a very rich grain growing area and the big farms are getting bigger and the little ones are disappearing. The farm paddocks have been worked until they are billiard ball smooth and pretty flat too. It's seeding time so the farmers are out with all the big gear.

The it was off down the coast via lots of beautiful coastal towns and even a light house. First stop was the Big tourist I to get some tourist maps and information in Miniaton.  Wish I had a spare few thousand dollars for some of the local art. The bakery was tempting so coffee called and we will dine on apple and cherry pie tonight.

I was fascinated by the old town called South Kilkerran and took photos of the old post office. The telephone box is now used for a pick up point. It had a copy of  the local newspaper in it ready for collection. The limestone houses built in the 1880s are just gorgeous. Lots in all the towns.. I love the dilapidated ones the most.

The weather was sunny and warm and the coastal scenery beautiful so we have been lucky.
