Today was spent exploring Kalgoorlie; a mining city.
We walked up and down the main street, past the statue of Paddy Hannon, and it was a bit of a trip down memory lane. The Exchange hotel looked the same.
Over the years we stayed at the Exchange a few times; once before I hopped on the train back to Victoria (the Trans Australian)- I saw my first strip show there.... probably was last as well! Think naked bodies and twirling fire sticks. Another time after we stayed there after riding up from Norseman on the back of Greg's Suzuki 400 motorbike- me the pillion passenger. Our trip down there tomorrow will be much more comfortable! Sylvester's night club is still there looking as seedy as ever.
The town has plenty of interesting looking pubs and buildings, also the famous "starting stalls and Hammond Park where we attempted to have a picnic lunch.
Unfortunately we sat outside(in a bus shelter) looking at the cemetery because it was a NO DOGS ALLOWED area. Rifter ...you could be annoying! We drove out to Boulder and were surprised to see lots of the buildings still covered in scaffolding after the earthquake on May 20th 2010.
Then of course there was the mining...the super pit, numerous head frames and diggings. The huge old home Jen and Ker lived in has long been gobbled up by the super pit.
In between there was some shopping to be done after a few "technical" issues. Think my iPhone has finally worn out so now I own another. The camera played up....still not sure what its problem was. Seems OK now.
