Rolling Wheatbelt Farmland.

Today we drove through the rolling hills and salmon gums of the wheatbelt area. Everything looked fresh and clean after heavy rain a few days ago. There are some fantastic neat, tidy towns with wide streets. These towns demonstrate their local pride by maintaining nice parks and retaining their historic buildings.

Bruce Rock celebrated its centenary in 2013.Their main street is now lined by  lots of intricate mosaics created by community groups, businesses and local families.

We stopped for lunch in Corrigin and my old boss (he's now Principal at the local school)  drove past, noticed us and stopped to say hello.

Finally it was time to stop and free camp in the bush. We were at Bodallin on the Great Eastern Highway (where there is nothing apart from a petrol station, a couple of empty houses and old school buildings) I just love the trees- salmon gums and gimlets. We were situated between the train line, the pipe line and the highway. Plenty of trains through the night and they blew their horn at the level crossing nearby so the night was long...and really cold. Some very noisy motor bike revving ( #$@ bogan???) drove past after "lights out" and then seemed to stop outside the van. We were waiting for the rest of the bikie gang to rock up  ..but soon all was quiet again. But the incident did raise our anxiety levels up a notch.
